Bro. Romy, Sis. Mara and J. Matthew Testimony
It was good speaking to you all again.
I just want to share a testimony to encourage you with the new challenges that you might be facing.
As you know we are starting from nothing again when we decided to come back here in NY. All we could take with us are the basic necessities that could fit in a balikbayan box. ...no furniture.
God gave me my job back. Romy is still looking for a job and do some construction jobs once in a while. It's almost six months, but we know that God is just teaching us to be patient and to depend on Him.
We've been staying with my sister since then. She's been a blessing to us. Looking for an apartment was a struggle because it is very expensive now. We've tried and look for different apartments which we could afford and an apartment that we don't need to pay one month broker's fee.
I've sent emails (more than 50 of them) and visited some of them. It was depressing, sometimes they won't even respond.
Two weeks ago, our guest Pastor's sermon was about "The Widow's Oil". 2 Kings 4: 1-7.
The widow has nothing except for a little oil. And Elisha said, go around and ask all your neighbors for empty jars. Don't ask for a few....to make the story short, she keeps pouring the oil until all the jars are filled and "...Then the oil STOPPED flowing. The Pastor said... note that the oil stoppedflowing, it did not disappear, it did not dried out. It is still there, it just stopped because the jars were filled.
God's blessing doesn't disappear and never runs out, it is always there, and He gives more than what we need, like in the story, they were not given oil just to pay for the debts but they were also given to supply for their needs.
The day before (Saturday), we saw one apartment that we seem to like but we have to pay for all the utilities including gas for the heater which is used a lot here.
Before we close the deal with the broker...
we visited our friend who lived in the building where we used to live. There is a 2 bedroom apartment that is available. It is expensive, out of our budget and we have to pay one month broker's fee, (3 months total down) so we didn't have any intention of renting it, but out of curiosity we decided to look at it.
We both love the apartment...good space and is near everything we need. The place is surrounded by schools, groceries, banks, etc and the Mall...He! He! He! And walking distance to our church and also close to most of our christian brothers and sister. Same building with our christian friends,,, actually they are practically our family. In case of emergency...they are there.
Then the following day, we heard the Pastor's message.
Is this it? Is this the answer to our prayer... to our apartment search.
Come Monday I called the broker...
My goodness, the requirements that they are asking are as if I am applying for a mortgage to buy a house.
My salary is $20,000.00 plus short of what they are requiring. The guarantor's salary should be 80 times the rent which is more than $135,000.00 a year.
When you look at the figures we won't qualify at all, but the broker said, amazingly, we might qualify if I make my sister a co-renter. By faith, Romy and I just completed the forms.
I mentioned it to my sister about what the broker said, but deep inside me, I was not comfortable asking her to be a co-renter because we will be cheating.
I thought to myself, " I don't need to ask anybody for help except God! God will help us!"
So I submitted the forms and last years copy of our tax return without my sister.
Like the Israelites, I started to doubt... figure wise every time I add up our monthly expenses our means will be short to pay for the apartment. And hearing all the news how bad the economy is, I was worried. I even said, Lord, if this apartment is not for us, it's okay, I won't be disappointed. Please God confirm it with me.
When I opened the bible, the first verses I saw was Matthew 16:1-12. It's about the yeast of the Pharisees.
Verse 8: " Aware of their discussion, Jesus asked, "You of little faith, why are you talking among yourselves about having no bread." Do you still not understand? Don't you remember the five loaves for the five thousand, and how many basketfuls you gathered?
Figure wise it is impossible but all things are possible with God.
Through God's grace and promises...our application was approved.
Praise the Lord...our lease will start on Good Friday. God is good.
We are not worried anymore...God will fill our jars with oil... the same with you.
Love in Christ,
Bro. Romy, Sis. Mara and J. Matthew
